Inspired by the Arts and Crafts architecture of Pasadena and other communities in Southern California, the main lobby of the Grand Californian nevertheless evokes the lobby of the Wilderness Lodge at Walt Disney World. Its location adjacent to California Adventure and Downtown Disney is another selling point -- some rooms in the hotel actually look out into the park. Winner of the 2003 Theme Park Insider Award for the world's best theme park hotel.

Originally constructed independent of Disney by Asian investors, it was later bought by Disney but preserved some of the flavor catering to Asian guests; it has the best upscale Japanese restaurant within walking distance of the resort and has Asian options in its room service menu. Although the restaurant hosts character breakfasts and other such kid-oriented activities, this is the place to stay if you prefer minimal distractions by families with little ones during your visit to the resort.
