The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

This ride opened in 1994, and takes you on an eerie journey through a deserted Hollywood Hotel where you visit the lobby, the library and the boiler room.

Guests are led toward the boiler room to enter the ride elevator. (This is your only change to change your mind. You will be shown to the "Chicken Exit")  Once you are seated in the elevator, the doors close and the room begins to ascend. At the first stop, the doors open and the guests view a corridor. Where you visitor to the hotel that have vanished. The doors close again and you continue your ascent.

Next stop the Fifth Dimension, a combo of eerie sights and sounds from "The Twilight Zone" TV series. (Watch the giant eye very closely you may see your image floating inside.) This part of the ride can be disorienting, due in part because the elevator is moving horizontally.

The adventure culminates with a 13-story drop in a runaway 1917 caged service elevator! In 1996, the ride was enhance to add a second drop, and in 1999 the ride was enhance again. You never know how many death-defying, plunges you'll take on each drop! It depends upon the whim of the Disney Imagineers, who have programmed the ride so the drop sequence can easily be changed.

This very popular ride draws long lines, so be sure and use Disney's FASTPASS® Ticket to avoid a long wait. Also, be sure to smile  when you reach the top of the building for the first time a picture will be taken of your terror as you begin your huge descent. The photo is available for purchase as you exit the ride.

Guests in wheelchairs must transfer from the chair to ride. Minimum height is 40 inches.

Closed-captioning is available on the pre-show film. See Guest Relations to obtain an activator for closed-captioning. FASTPASS Ride

Guest Comments on the New The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ Drop sequence

I was going to wait and go on The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ when we stay at AKL. But it was such a nice day on Sunday and I wanted to go out, so DH and I headed to MGM. We only went on ToT once, after the one ride my DH felt a little light headed.   All I'm gonna say about the new drop I went on is that it is very cool! For those of you who haven't been on it yet you have something to really look forward to! We will go on the ride again when we have our long weekend at AKL. Also there was something else kinda neat worth mentioning. You know the regular elevator that is located between the sets of attraction elevators? It's the elevator that people take when they change their mind about going on the attraction, (my sister Kaylee chickened out once!.). Well, my DH and I had a clear view of it while waiting in line, we saw the elevator open and a bellhop poked his head out. He looked to either side and then stepped back into the elevator. The elevator doors shut....but just at the moment they were completely closed they opened back up and the bellhop was gone! I looked over at my DH and said, "That was funny". The doors closed again and a few minutes later opened again with the bellhop inside. Anyways, I thought that was kinda neat. I don't know if this has been done on the attraction for quite sometime and I just didn't see it, or if it's something new.   By: Lindsey
